Recognized in 1834 by Maria Matilde De Mattias, an esteemed Italian educator devoted to the Catholic Church, the Adorers of the Blood of Christ is a religious congregation dedicated to spreading the message of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and redemption through acts of love, education, and healthcare. Canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 2003, Maria Matilde De Mattias’s enduring influence shapes the Adorers’ global mission.

In 1971, the Adorers expanded their mission to Liberia, where Sisters Alvina Schott and Bonita Wittenbrink established a healthcare initiative in Grandcess Territory. Building upon this foundation, Sisters Virginia Walsh, Mary Nagle, and Alvina Schott founded St. Michael’s School in Gardnersville in 1973, under the leadership of Sister Alvina Schott. Guided by her vision, the school grew from an elementary institution to a high school by 1982.

In 1983, St. Michael’s High School relocated to a new campus in New Georgia, marking a new chapter in its history. Pioneering educators like Sisters Raphael Ann Drone and Mary Nagle played crucial roles in the school’s transition and development. Since graduating its inaugural senior class in 1984, St. Michael’s has nurtured generations of accomplished alumni who have made significant contributions on a global scale.
